How effective is the combination of your main product and
ancillary texts?
Mock interview with manager or someone about the products and
artist
The brand of Katie
is very simple, yet has classy image that helps to create the artist she is.
We took inspiration
from other artists from the genre, such as Adele and Duffy who also seem to
reflect this image.
There was also some inspiration from Hollywood icons such as
Audrey Hepburn and Emma Stone who upon occasion echo this style.
We decided to do
this by thinking of a colour scheme that fitted the genre and also a theme for the
album and the artist herself. This is why we chose autumnal colours (reds,
browns, yellows etc.).
Not only does it
reflect Katie’s appearance, by matching her hair colour, but also links to the
album. I think red hair
will help to make her stand out as an artist and also show the young, strong
female type fans look up to.
This is a really
positive representation of women and will hopefully reflect the sophisticated
style of Adele and other women of the genre.
Another way we kept the colour scheme and theme together was by
how we used the locations in all of the products. It meant that they were all
linked together and the themes were represented throughout.
One way we used location was to show different elements of the
narrative, e.g. we used the forest to show calm and the town to show disruption.
This was done so the audience could see the binary opposites and establish the type
of action taking place.
The fashion choice
is one that we feel the artist is comfortable with and also one that fits with
the genre. We encouraged Katie to pick her own outfits, but we as management
would still approve them, making sure that the styling is one that we would
approve of for the branding of the artist.
This way it means
the classy and sophisticated look we were hoping to achieve is created. We also
made sure that the clothing seen in the digipak/poster and video reflected the
themes.
When creating this
album, it was crucial that the ways Katie is reflected is consistent. This
means that we made sure to show how Katie is strong and independent as well as
care free.
We did this by
showing off the star persona, meaning that we made sure to have lots of shots
where a close up of her was used or a shot where she was the main focus.
In both all the
products created for Katie, we consistently used high key lighting. This was
because in the pop genre it is normal to use this semantic element. This helps
the audience to establish the genre and theme of the products.
We decided that
“Well, Well, Well” would be the best song to use as it was upbeat, fun and a
good first song to release from the album.
It was interesting to see how we could create a narrative that
would put forward the message in the lyrics as well as to show an interesting
perspective on the matter. This why we decided to reverse the meaning of the
lyrics in the narrative. This way it keeps the audiences interest in what’s
going on . This links
to linking the lyrics and visuals together.
