This is an A grade video. This is due to the excellent use of
narrative compared to some others I have seen. They have kept is simple, but
with enough of an entertainment and creative value to keep the viewer
interested. I also think that the clothing and locations used worked really
well for the narrative and the genre of music. They also showed great technical
skills when editing and filming the music video. This was shown through the
smooth transitions and the filters that were used on the footage. It gave the
video a sense of continuity, which may not have been achieved otherwise. They
have decided to use a wide range of shots, from wide to close up and still
shots and moving shots.
However the song
was originally sung by a band and there isn't any band shown in the music video,
only a solo artist. I think that it would have been nice to see a band as well
as just the singer.
This is a C/D due a lack of control over the camera and dull
narrative. It seemed as though there was some skill involving the make-up and
props element however it didn't work as it showed up on the camera, causing the
quality of the video to be lowered. There was also no evidence of lip syncing
the video and only seemed to focus on the narrative.
The location is
also something that i don't really think goes with the genre. Normally in music
videos the location is not just an ordinary town. I believe this reflects badly
on the video as it shows little creative value. The clothing is also not
appropriate for the pop genre.
Along with all of
this it took a very long time to get into the actual music video. I think that
they could have spent less time on the beginning section.
However they did
use a wide variety of camera angles, demonstrating some skill involving the
camera. Despite the narrative not really linking with the genre, the variety of
locations and clothing did suit the narrative.
I think this is a B/A, due to the relevance to the genre and
creative aspects of the video. I really like the wide range of eating
techniques that are used to create a fun and professional looking video. It is
clear that a lot of time an effort has been put into the creation of the video.
They have good
control over the camera and spent a lot of time thinking about forming. The
Mise En Scene is also really clearly though out as they have deliberately used
the bright colours to highlight the entertaining and fun elements of the song.
However there
isn't much of a narrative element to the video, but that is possibly due to the
genre. Despite the lack of narrative the video is still entertaining and fun to
watch, which is the most important part.
